Khawaja's maiden away Ashes ton puts a stunning retirement record on the line as he returned

to score his sixth Test century since being dropped by Australia on the second day of the first Ashes Test for England.

15th century by khawaja:

Khawaja's stunning 126 * was his 15th century of his career, but his first in a UK Test, and his majesty led Australia to close on 311 / 5 on the day.

the school's card

Khawaja's records were astonishing after he returned in January 2022 in the Sydney Test in the same competition.

The left-hander hit tons in India and Pakistan in that time and recorded three each against South Africa and England at home. Despite this, his record in the UK environment prior to the Great Birmingham Attack was poor.

Khawaja has now recorded:

Khawaja has now recorded 1747 in 31 innings since his return to Australia, and averages a staggering 69.88 during that time.

And when he reached his record, Khawaja was encouraged by how important the event was for the 36-year-old.

From Pakistan to London: Khawaja talks about a long trying journey.

The openers have formed excellent partnerships with Travis Head, Cameron Green and Ox Carey, and when Australia took control of the second day's play, England were left to rue the three days of missed opportunities.

How do you do 2 days?

Australia resumed on 14/0 after England declared on the first day - the second time Britain have made such a stunning move in 2023 under the stewardship of Ben Stokes.

But the slow-opening half-hour was inadvertently bombarded by a double attack from Stuart Blood.

David Warner's lofted drive off minimal movement put him on the edge of the ball in his own bottle, and Labuschagne preyed on Bled's recent strong winning outswinger in the next drive, and Jonny Bairstow took a good catch.

Two in two balls!

The hit-in-the-track ball didn't try to put Steve Smith on the edge of the foot, and Smith managed to steer Stokes through the morning session with a partnership of 38 off 16.4 before getting the required 16 off 59 balls.

Australia were 78/3 at lunch, still 315 behind, and England used seven bowlers in their first session, including the experienced Sune Anwar of Harry Brook and Joe Root.

Ashes 2023: All you need to know

The Australians focused on Moeen Ali after a lunch break, and Travis Head almost caught up with Khawaja and both recorded a half-century in the session.

Nevertheless, Stokes left his goal to Moeen on the field and took advantage of the situation when Head attempted too many shots and fell for a 63-ball 50 to return to the pavilion.

And at the age of 35, Moeen got the second wicket which Bairstow couldn't forget in this stunning effort, as the beautifully flighted delivery outpaced the charge of Carmorn Green.

Khawaja and Green are comfortable

Australia was included in the car with a point of 188 / 4, and the margin was reduced to 205. But while Khawaja and Green are comfortable in the evening session as Australia feels they are gaining a powerful upper hand in the game, Moeen has run through the door to remove all of Austria's 38.

Khawaja's ton gave Australia's winners a reason to rejoice during the day, and when Stuart Broad rattled the Centurion's ass with a new ball, the green-and-gold faithful experienced another moment of joy - when Bairstow failed to hold on to the edge at the root of Carey, immediately followed by a second-half dismissal.

partnership Khawaja (126 *)

And Australia paid for England's lost opportunities, and after Carey saw off the second new ball (52 *) and Khawaja (126 *) built a partnership of 91 by the end.

WTC 2023-25

The WTC 2023-25 cycle begins with a tussle between the ancient hypocrites.

In a difficult day for England's bowling players, Moeen Ali moved 29 overs, three more than the number set in Chennai Super Kings' winning total of the Indian Premier League campaign.

And England's entire line-up is expected to call in orderly after the game, and the Edgbaston pitch makes for more and more spin as the fight progresses.

Moeen finished with 2/124, and Blood (2/49) and Stokes (1/33) ensured the English chasers were able to stop the trio in moral situations as much as possible.

Khawaja and Carey would go on to score 82 each on the third day to propel Australia to their first win of the tournament.
